「両側の破裂軟骨の後面にある凹みを満たし、その両端はこの軟骨の外側縁に停止する。披裂筋を横披裂筋と斜披裂筋とに区別する。横披裂筋は無対で、左右の披裂軟骨の外側縁を互いに水平位に結合する。披裂軟骨を近づけて声門を狭める。 斜披裂筋は、披裂軟骨の筋突起の後縁から反対側の軟骨尖に走り、両側のものは交叉して後面にＸ字形に走る。
横破裂筋とともに声門を狭める。臨床では、披裂筋を横筋という。」

　The arytenoid /ærɨˈtiːnɔɪd/ is a single muscle, filling up the posterior concave surfaces of the arytenoid cartilages.
　It arises from the posterior surface and lateral border of one arytenoid cartilage, and is inserted into the corresponding parts of the opposite cartilage.
　It consists of oblique and transverse parts.
【Action】
　The Arytœnoideus approximates the arytenoid cartilages, and thus closes the opening of the glottis, especially at its back part to eliminate the posterior commissure of the vocal folds.
