　関節包の前面は放射状肋骨頭靭帯によって補強されている。また、第2～第10の肋骨頭関節の関節腔は、関節内肋骨頭靭帯によって上下に2分され、一般的には2分された下半分の関節腔の方が広くなっている。第1,11および第12肋骨頭関節には関節内肋骨頭靭帯はないので、関節腔は2分されることはない。
