　「船戸和弥のホームページ」には以下のような解説が見られる。

「内側顆と外側顆の下面を被う関節面の前端は互いにつながって膝蓋面をつくる。膝蓋面は中央に縦溝のあるややくぼんだ面で、膝蓋骨の後面に対向する。 」

 

　また、以下が「anatomyEXPERT」の解説文となる。

「This is the smooth, grooved articular surface on the anterior aspect of the distal femur. It extends farther proximally on the lateral condyle than it does on the medial condyle. It forms an articular surface with the posterior aspect of the patella.」
