「 日本人体解剖学 」では以下のように解説している。

「前庭の内側壁に小孔に貫かれた篩状斑が3個みられ、内耳道底から膜迷路に分布する神経の通路となる。そのうち、前庭錐体の上方にある部を上篩状斑といい、前庭神経の上枝である卵形嚢膨大部神経を通じ、内耳道の上前庭野に続いている。 」

 the perforated area on the vestibular wall through which branches of the vestibulocochlear nerve pass to the macula of the utricle and to the crista ampullaris of the anterior and lateral semicircular canals.
