上の表は「日本人体解剖学」を参考に作成したものだが、「Wikipedia」では以下の解説のように虹彩を大きく支質と色素上皮細胞の2つの層に分け、「虹彩内皮」にあたる層は見られない。また、「船戸和也のHP」の感覚器の解説でも、虹彩内皮および前眼房内皮という呼称は見当たらない。
