「前縁と後縁に囲まれた部分で比較的平滑で浅い溝状を呈す。」
「腓骨の外側面は前および後下腿筋間中隔にはさまれた腓骨筋が起こる場所で、上半分は長腓骨筋のため、浅く陥凹する。 」

「The lateral surface is the space between the antero-lateral （前外側）and postero-lateral （後外側）borders. It is broad, and often deeply grooved; it is directed lateralward in the upper two-thirds of its course, backward in the lower third, where it is continuous with the posterior border of the lateral malleolus. This surface gives origin to the Peronæi longus and brevis.」
