尾椎とは
「日本人体解剖学 (上巻)
」の「尾骨」の項では以下のような解説が見られる。
「尾骨は、脊柱下端部にある小さな通常3～5個の尾椎からでき、小児ではおのおの分離するが、成人では各尾椎間のみでなく仙骨とも癒合する。
尾骨は、ヒトでは退化している。胎生期には、第9尾椎まで認められるが、発生の途中に消失する。 」
