・オトガイ隆起下端の両側にはオトガイ結節（扁平な隆起）が見られる。

「前方正中線にある縦の隆起で、元来分離した下顎骨の両半分の癒合部に一致する。オトガイ隆起下端の両側には扁平な隆起があり、オトガイ結節という。オトガイ結節の外側上方で、第1（または第2）小臼歯の歯槽に一致したところに円い孔があり、これをオトガイ孔（オトガイ動・静脈、オトガイ神経が通る）という。オトガイ孔の後方から後上方に向かい、下顎枝前縁につづく軽度の隆起線を斜線という。 」

「下顎体の正中部の前面にはオトガイ隆起という隆起がみられ、その外下方にオトガイ結節という高まりがある。オトガイ隆起と左右の両側のオトガイ結節とは下顎体の前面正中部で三角状に突出し、オトガイ三角(mental triangle)をつくる。三角を含めて下顎の先端部がオトガイで、その存在はヒトの下顎骨の特徴となる。」
