「 船戸和弥のHP 」には以下のような解説文が見られる。
「 大脳半球の下面と内側面の皮質の大部分の血液は、多数の小さい静脈によって、内大脳静脈または大大脳静脈にはいる。浅大脳静脈系と深大脳静脈系を結合する吻合静脈として脳底静脈、後頭静脈、後脳梁静脈がある。これらの静脈は深大脳静脈に関連させて考察するのが一番よい。」

「 The superficial middle cerebral vein ( SMCV ) ( also known as the Sylvian vein ) is one of the superficial cerebral veins. It usually passes along the Sylvian fissure posteroanteriorly, it collects numerous small tributaries which drain the opercular areas around the lateral sulcus. It curves anteriorly around the tip of the temporal lobe and drains into the sphenoparietal sinus or cavernous sinus. However, there is significant variation (see below).
It may have connections to other dural venous sinuses by anastomotic veins:
