インターネットで画像検索をしてみると、左右の胃大網静脈を別々に描いているイラストよりは、左右の静脈が吻合して1本の静脈のように描いたイラストを掲載しているサイトのほうが多い。Wikipedia にはそのような解説は見られないので詳細は不明となる。いずれにしても、左右の胃大網静脈の血液の流れは異なり、右が右下方に流れて上腸間膜静脈に注ぐのに対して、左は左上方に走って脾静脈に注ぐ。
