よって、ここでは「 Wikipedia 」を中心にいろいろなサイトに掲載されているイラストを参考にして作成してみた。
下行枝とは
・「 This is the largest branch. 」（ Wikipedia ）
・起始する位置
胸鎖乳突筋枝のすぐ上方で（乳様突起よりも下部）で後頭動脈から分岐しているイラストを掲載しているサイトもあるが、乳様突起よりも後方（ほぼ乳突枝が分岐する部分と同じくらい）で分岐するイラストを掲載しているサイトの方が多く、ここでは後者に倣った。
以下は「 日本人体解剖学 」を参考にして作成した、後頭動脈の枝を簡単に表す図となる。
以下は後頭動脈から分岐する順に従ったものになる。いろいろなサイトに掲載されているイラストを参考に作成したが、イラストによって分岐する枝の位置が異なるので、以下の起始する枝の順番は参考程度にとどめていただきたい。

「 This is the largest branch. It descends on the posterior aspect of the neck, and divides into a superficial and deep portion.
The superficial portion supplies the trapezius muscle and anastomoses with the ascending branch of the transverse cervical artery.
The deep portion anastomoses with the vertebral artery and with the a. profunda cervicalis, a branch of the costocervical trunk.
Thus, branches of the occipital artery participate in anastamosis between the external carotid and the subclavian artery, thereby providing collateral circulation.」
